Autumn in Vadu Crișului

It's no secret that autumn is our favourite season because of the abundance of warm colours which create a beautiful spectacle in Romania's dense forests. It's the perfect season to go hiking in the mountains since the weather is stable and it's not so hot as it is during the summer.

The Roman Baths in Cetea

One of Romania's hidden beauties lays just 30 km away from the beautiful city of Alba Iulia and reaching it is very easy. If you're searching for a great place to cool down, this is the place to be!

Sighiștel Canyon - Apuseni's green paradise

For a long time we knew that the Apuseni Mountains are an inexhaustible resource for nature's gems: never ending forests, caves, waterfalls, canyons, flooding meadows and special karstic phenomena. This is why every time we explore them they never cease to amaze us 😊

Hiking to Capra Lake - between winter and spring in Făgăraș

Most of the tourist that visit the famous Transfăgărășan highway make a long pit stop at Bâlea Lake, the highest point on this highway. However, since it became such a big tourist attraction this place is crowded since it's the host of the beautiful Bâlea lake and a panorama point for this truly beautiful highway.

But we know a short trail that leads to the best panorama point and is far away from all the fuss happening at Bâlea 😊

Towards Arjana Peak - winter in the Cernei Mountains

I can't really remember since when we planned on doing some hiking in the Cernei Mountains including visiting the remote villages with a few scattered houses on top of these picturesque mountains. So it was unexpected that we got here during winter...of all seasons. This is actually not bad at all since snow and cold means no snakes 😋

Amazing Padiș - The frozen Bulbuci Waterfall and Ciungilor rock

This winter season was the most prolific ever! We managed to do more winter trails this winter than in all the previous winters combined. Actually until now we were pretty intimidated to do mountain trails during winter, filled with snow. The key, as we've learnt, is to do it progressively. Anyway, we were charmed and I think us and winter tours will have a long love story from now on 😊

Mălăiești Cottage in winter - truly amazing

Before we got to ski in Poiana Brașov we did a winter trail that we've dreamed of doing for about two years. I can't exactly explain why we got so fascinated about Mălăiești Cottage  in the Bucegi Mountains right after we heard about it.

The Rusty Ravine (Groapa Ruginoasă) in winter

In a cold and foggy December morning we found ourselves somewhere in the Apuseni Mountains close to Vârtop. Snow was abundant everywhere around us so we couldn't miss out on a short hike starting from the main road leading to Vârtop.

Moneasa - breathing the purest air in Romania and a hike to the Tinoasa Karst Plateau

It so happened that this year's 1st of May was not booked for us. No trip, no nothing. That's a bit unusual for us so we couldn't stand it and tried to take a short and close trip :) We chose to go to Moneasa, only 100 km away from Arad, a 2 hour car ride.

The base of Piatra Craiului, Măgura village and the Zărnești Ravines via The Cat's Corges

Sorry for the long and complicated title but we got a lot to tell you about :D This trip is part of our tour through the Romanian mountains in the summer of 2015. One of the last trips we did in this tour was here at the base of Piatra Craiului mountain in the village of Măgura. A beautiful, spectacular and picturesque place :)

Moldoveanu peak (2544 m) - meeting The King

Oh boy, we did it!! :) In July 2015 we managed to reach the highest point in Romania, Moldoveanu peak at 2544 m altitude! :D It was a dream come true to sit here on top of Romania with an astonishing view! :)

Negoiu peak (2535 m) on the Dragons Trail

We've been long waiting to conquer the top 3 peaks in Romania's Carpathian Mountains and they were scheduled for the summer of 2015. We've previously said that for us the numbers or the records are not so important but it's essential to discover and reunite with nature.

However I must admit that the feeling of pride and achievement of making it to the top of a mountain is there and if the weather is good it's even better since you get to admire the surroundings from somewhere high up. We started with the second highest peak in Romania: Negoiu, 2535 m altitude.

Above Băile Herculane: The White Cross - Domogledul Mare Peak (1105m) - Feregari Gorges

On the 1st of May 2015 we organised a series of hikes on top of the mountains surrounding Băile Herculane. Once one of the most exclusive spa resorts in Europe, today this resort is almost a ruin :( The surroundings and the architecture of this resort are stunning. It's situated on the Cerna Valley, between the Mehedinți and Cerna Mountains. We are really sad about what this resort has become and we are preparing a future protest post on this topic.

Two days in Cozia - the perfect autumn hike

We finally get to write about one of our favourite trips in the mountains. We waited the whole year to write about it because we wanted to share it with you at the beginning of autumn since, we can tell you right from the start, it's the best autumn trip we ever did! :)

Țășnei Gorges - rock and water paradise in the Mehedinți Mountains

Our plans for the 1st of May mini-vacation in 2015 were tied to Băile Herculane resort in Western Romania. This place was once one of the most luxurious spa centres in Europe where the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy relaxed in the healing thermal waters. Now, it's just a distant memory of the once world renown resort but nature hasn't changed and the outstanding trails you can do here are still available and we decided to explore them :)

Our last day of our mini-vacation was dedicated to Țășnei Gorges in the first part of the day and then to Vânturătoarea Waterfall which we already wrote about :)

Vânturătoarea Waterfall - amazing, amazing, amazing

Our no.50 post is about an amazing place we've recently been to: Vânturătoarea Waterfall near Băile Herculane resort. This is, in our opinion, the most beautiful waterfall in Romania! :) Not only we had big expectations, but when we got there they were completely blown away. It was even better then we've expected. This waterfall is amazing, beautiful, elegant, impressive and spectacular!

Adventures in the Iezer Păpușa Mountains - the worst experience on a mountain trail

After we went on the best trail ever, in Stan Valley in the Făgăraș Mountains,  our 2014 tour through Romania takes us to the Iezer Păpușa Mountains. Honestly we didn't know much about them but we read that there is a nice peak where you have a great view over the astonishing Piatra Craiului crest.

Rădesei Cave and The Warm Someș Gorges - adventure in Padiș

As we were saying in our previous posts, Padiș area is extremely rich in trails, amazing places and wonderful people. The Apuseni Mountains have very picturesque  sceneries and people and it is worth going on vacation here.

Gâlcescu Lake - Parâng Mountains turquoise

During our trip to the highest road in Romania, Transalpina, we decided to go on an interesting route leading to the biggest lake in the Parâng Mountins: Gâlcescu Lake.

Ceahlău Mountain - Toaca peak, edelweiss and bears

For a long time we've wanted to get to the Ceahlău Mountains. We've heard a lot of nice things about these beautiful mountains located in Eastern Romania, in Moldova. So in our 2014 summer vacation we included Moldova in our itinerary.
